This prevents pinching of the lips, gives a solid feel against the side of the face and prevents the bit being pulled through the mouth. The release is slower than a loose ring and light poll pressure is introduced. A fixed cheek sits closely to the lips and encourages flexion, which steadies a horse that is busy in the mouth. There is no hole drilled through the mouthpiece, so there is nothing for the lips to catch on.

Technical Details

Material. Aurion is a high copper concentrated alloy. Copper oxidises gently in saliva and gives off a faint sweet, metallic taste, which draws the horse to mouth the bit and salivate. Because the whole mouthpiece is Aurion and not just the centre link, that taste runs the full length of the bar. Aurion also warms towards body temperature faster than steel. The colour deepens with use. Cheeks are stainless steel.

Fit closely, with the lip gently brushing the eggbutt.
